I’m currently in the US, travelling around and getting some work done. I was in Portland when shooting this particular scope, where I spent time with Brendon Burchard’s videographer, Travis Shields. I worked with Travis to shoot over 100+ videos – some of which you may be seeing in the near future.
So anyway, today I’d like to share with you the most important skill you need to have which will have a direct impact on your income levels:
The Art Of Sales and Presentations
If you really think about it, the art of selling and presenting is equivalent to your income.
Whether it’s one-on-one, one-on-ten, one-on-fifteen, or one-on-5000 – learning the art of presentation will change your life.
Because when you know how to present, you’ll know how to cover a lot of people simultaneously, and this will have a direct impact on your bottomline.
At the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter what business you’re in, or whether you’re a solo-preneur, an entrepreneur or whether you own a huge business… maybe especially if you own a huge business.
If you’re the CEO of a large business, you’re pretty much expected to know how to present to an extent. You’d also be expected to be great at communication.
If you’re someone just starting out, a one-man show, then learning how to sell will help you take your business and income levels to a whole new level.
So why isn’t everyone doing it?
Mainly because most people have a negative connotation when it comes to sales. Most people don’t even like the word “sales” – they look at it like it’s a bad word.
But once again, I cannot stress enough how much good you can do for your income levels if you were to get good at this skill.
So the question becomes: How do you get good at sales?
How To Improve at Sales and Presentations
1. Look at sales and presentations differently
The first thing you want to be doing is to look at sales and presentations very differently.
Instead of focusing on selling, you want to come from a point where you’re adding value to a person’s life.
When you think of it as helping others instead of selling to them, you’ll automatically find your outlook on selling and presenting changing.
2. Practice
If you really want to improve, nothing beats practice. You’re not going to magically get better at sales and presentations overnight.
If you’ve never done it before, start by practicing.
Just get on your first speaking gig, whatever it may be, and just get it done.
Then, to help yourself improve further, record yourself speaking and presenting.
I know that may sound scary – maybe even downright terrifying – to some people, but you need to do it, because it’s only when you see and hear yourself that you’ll be able to identify what you’re doing wrong or right, and take steps to improve yourself.
How To Take Things To A Whole New Level
1. Overcome your fear
At the end of the day, practice is really the answer to this one too.
However, there’s one thing most people need to overcome: FEAR
There’s a lot of different things that people might fear, which is stopping them from moving forward:
- fear of failure
- fear of criticism
- fear of looking stupid
- fear of embarrassment
To get around this, you want to tell yourself one thing:
“The very fact that people are actually listening to you means that there’s a part of them that also wants to believe in you.”
So here’s what you need to do:
2. Address what it is that they want
Most people want the same things in life.
They’re usually either poor on money, or poor on time – so these are humanity’s two greatest wants.
So you need to address people’s needs.
If people have all the money in the world but don’t have much time, and you have an offer that can help them, then that is what you need to offer them… and vice-versa.
You want to know your audience – are they short on time? Or are they short on money?
Or is it something else that they need, like security, for example? These people might have time and money freedom, but they may not have the security to enjoy this.
So you want to dig deep and find out what it is that they want most, and talk about those things.
If you’ve ever heard me speak before, you’ll realize that I’m constantly striving to understand my audience, their needs and wants, and then talking on how I can help them get what they want.
To recap:
The #1 skill that will really help you take your income to the next level is sales.
How you can improve your sales:
1. Look at sales very differently
2. Practice
And to take things to the next level:
1. You need to overcome your fear
2. Address your audience’s needs and wants.
